Grief & Loss Counselling Forster & Online Across the Mid North Coast

Support Through All Forms of Loss

At Counselling Solution, we provide grief and loss counselling for individuals navigating life after significant change or bereavement. Grief doesn’t only follow the death of a loved one—it can also arise after divorce, job loss, a pet’s passing, health decline, or other deeply personal transitions.

Our support is grounded in empathy, presence, and evidence-based therapeutic techniques that honour your unique experience. Whether you’re overwhelmed by sadness, feeling stuck in a stage of grief, or struggling with sudden life changes, we offer a safe space to process, heal, and move forward at your own pace.

We commonly support clients experiencing:

  • Bereavement (death of a loved one)

  • Divorce, separation, or estrangement

  • Loss of employment or retirement adjustment

  • Serious illness or declining health

  • Loss of a pet or companion animal

  • Major life transitions (e.g. moving, empty nesting)

Our goal is to support you through the emotional, mental, and physical weight of grief—without judgement, pressure, or timelines.

Our Approach to Grief & Loss Counselling

We recognise that no two people grieve the same way. That’s why our therapy is tailored to your needs and shaped by your personal values, emotional style, and life circumstances.

We incorporate elements from:

  • Attachment and Emotion-Focused Therapies

These approaches help you make sense of powerful emotional responses such as anger, guilt, numbness or anxiety, and teach practical strategies to regulate overwhelm.

We work with you to name and process feelings safely, reconnect with supportive relationships, and cultivate self-compassion while your nervous system stabilises.

Grounded in attachment science and Emotionally Focused principles, this work supports you to move from shutdown or reactivity toward emotional safety, clarity and relief.

  • Meaning-Making & Narrative Therapy

Here, we explore how loss has affected your identity, values, purpose and future—and gently support you to re-author your story.

Through reflective practices (e.g. letters, journalling, legacy work and ritual), we help you honour what has been lost while creating new meaning, direction and connection.

This process acknowledges secondary losses, invites post-traumatic growth where appropriate, and guides you towards a life that integrates your grief rather than ignores it.

We also recognise that grief may come with anxiety, depression, or relationship stress. Your sessions can flexibly address those overlaps, supporting your whole emotional landscape.

Types of Grief We Support — Online & In-Person Across the Mid North Coast

Grief and loss affect people in many different ways—and not just after the death of a loved one. At Counselling Solution, we offer grief counselling and bereavement support to individuals processing a wide range of personal losses, including separation, serious illness, career changes, and the loss of pets or identity.

We offer flexible counselling to support you through:

Bereavement Support

Whether your loss was recent or many years ago, grief can surface in waves.

We offer bereavement counselling that honours your relationship and supports you through the emotional impact of loss—sadness, guilt, anger, or numbness.

There’s no pressure to move on. We meet you where you are, with space to grieve at your own pace, in-person or online.

Loss of Health or Independence

Chronic illness, disability, or life-changing diagnoses often trigger grief. You may mourn your past abilities, freedom, or sense of identity.

We offer counselling for health-related grief to support emotional adjustment, resilience, and meaning-making.

This space is especially helpful for those navigating brain injury, long-term health issues, or sudden lifestyle changes.

Divorce & Separation Grief

The end of a relationship often brings grief, even if it was your choice.

Through separation grief counselling, we help you process emotions like loss, regret, relief, or confusion, and begin to rebuild identity and emotional stability.

This work is valuable whether your breakup was recent or years ago, especially when grief feels stuck or unresolved.

Pet Loss Counselling

The loss of a beloved pet can feel devastating. If you’re grieving and feel like others don’t understand, you’re not alone.

Our pet loss counselling provides a safe, compassionate space to honour the bond you shared and move through sadness, guilt or emptiness with care.

This support is available in-person or via telehealth.

Our services are available both in-person in Forster and Port Macquarie, and via secure telehealth for clients across Gloucester, Tea Gardens, Tamworth, and the broader Mid North Coast region.
